Built in 1870, The Cottage is a perfectly preserved example of classic southern Appalachian construction. Built of native wood and locally gathered stone, the Cottage is a cozy rental with views of the old Deerwoode swimming lake and the French Broad River. This cabin sits next to the Mayes' Homeplace and is surrounded by giant Tulip Poplar and White Oak trees. One of which is registered with the National Oak Society and measures 26 feet in circumference. This Oak was a land mark in the Civil War and is over 300 years old. Imagine a soft rain on the metal roof and putting your feet up in front of the electric log stove. The Cottage has a Queen bed, bath, with mini-fridge, A/C, coffee pot and TV.
